Our guiding principles
Human oversight
We will always prioritize human judgement in decision-making – no decisions will be made by the business based solely on the output of an AI algorithm.
Security and access control
We commit to ensure there are adequate security controls in place, depending on the risk throughout the data lifecycle.
Privacy & data governance
We will ensure data usage respects the privacy rights of individuals and the contractual agreements between the company, its employees and customers, as per the Unit4 privacy policy.
Transparency
Unit4 will be transparent at all times about the AI tools that Unit4 is directly using and how those are being used.
Fairness and equity
Use of AI applications must be fair and equitable, in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Systemic, computational and human biases must be identified and remediated.
Compliance with laws and licensing conditions
We commit to comply with applicable laws.
We maintain awareness of how the AI application uses personal data, confidential or sensitive information, and the purpose for which the AI was trained, in order to ensure such use complies with applicable laws, rules, regulations, notices, and policies.
We will also abide by any relevant licensing conditions regarding intellectual property rights in the authorized AI application's terms of use and ensure that third-party proprietary data or material is not entered into the application as a prompt without the third party's permission.
AI Governance at Unit4

AI Framework – a living and breathing document, setting out our guiding principles.

AI Policy – a policy that sets out our processes, which Unit4 Staff must comply with, to ensure the ethical and compliant use of any AI products developed by Unit4 and any AI tools used within our organization.

AI product development review – an AI compliance review in Unit4’s product development process, to ensure any Artificial Intelligence in our products is compliant with our guiding principles and AI Policy.

AI Committee – a cross-functional team, which oversees the use of Artificial Intelligence, ensuring that Unit4 implements and complies with the AI Policy. The AI Committee reports to the Global Leadership Team on a regular basis.

Privacy and Security – Unit4 has established Security and Privacy programs.

Legal "SWAT" team – Unit4 has a process and staff in place to monitor upcoming legislation impacting our business (such as new laws on Artificial Intelligence), assess these laws and adjust our AI compliance program accordingly.
